Personal Information

I’m David Hidvegi, these are my profiles: Website, LinkedIn, GitHub, GitLab

Experience

Since September 2023, I have been working on my own project called Admire. I created a self-managed, highly optimized, hybrid Kubernetes infrastructure that is focused on cost-efficiency, performance, and high availability across multiple regions. This infrastructure was initially based on the reclaim-the-stack project.

Between 2020 February and 2021 September I worked at Cloudera as a Sustaining Software Engineer. During my time, many customers moved from CDP 5 and CDP 6 to [CDH 7].(https://docs.cloudera.com/cdp-private-cloud/latest/release-summaries/topics/announcement-202006-71.html). I worked on an internal tool that sped up the patching process of CDH 6 and CDH 7, which helped other engineers progress faster. I contributed to delivering patch and maintenance releases for CM.

Before 2020 February I completed 2 internships at Cloudera, where (1) I created an ETL pipeline using Apache Nifi to ingest company data into Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub (EDH) to allow managers a centralized place for querying company data and (2) I developed a tool to simplify the modification of HTML files for staging and archive endpoints. It is now used to easily update legal text on https://archive.cloudera.com/. I also worked as a Java Mentor at Matritel Labs, where I taught the basics of computer science theory and Java and mentored students.

Studies

I received the EIT Digital Master’s Double Degree in Autonomous Systems by completing my entry year at Université Côte d’Azur, Nice and my exit year at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. My Master’s Thesis demonstrated state of the art repair performance by generating 15% more plausible patches, 10% more fixed patches while using 63% less tokens compared to baseline.

I completed my Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering with Biomechatronics specialization at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Budapest.

Projects

In 2022 I joined the SSE Business Lab, which was a 12 week long program that consisted of multiple workshops, guest lectures with invited entrepreneurs, and a pitch competition in front of an expert jury. Our team of 4 developed the Rounded News startup ideas to serve unbiased news using stance detection (instead of sentiment detection) to fight filter bubbles. We won the pitching competition. Two months later Instagram co-founder launched Artifact News application based on the same concept.

Between 2015 February and 2020 April I developed muliple mobile games. The most notable one was Hoppy Chicken, which was designed Michal Stawowski, released on Google Play, Amazon App store and Apple App store, and 2 months later sold to “GAME DNA LABS!”

Before 2020 I worked on a Google Stadia alternative for mobile, two times. First time I developped Admire Games which was written in C# using Unity3D. It contained mini games, all of which could be instantly started. The mini games were split up into smaller parts and served over a CDN, and the application only loaded the parts that were needed instead of the whole game. Later the project was abandoned, since all game logic had to be written in LUA, which made the development of mini games became very hard due to lack of IDE and debugging difficulties. Later I attempted to create game logic blocks in C# that could have been be used to create games instead of LUA code. However after the release of Google Stadia and also due due to lack of time beside the university and work, I decided to abandon the idea.
